REFLECTIVE SAFETY BAND PROJECT

A Youth-Led Initiative for Safer Journeys and Stronger Communities

Small bands. Brighter tomorrows.

Hoa Sen Bridge Alliance is pleased to introduce the Reflective Safety Band Project, a youth-led community safety initiative currently being coordinated in Vietnam by Phan Hoàng Quỳnh Chi, Program Initiative Officer of Hoa Sen Bridge Alliance, in collaboration with the International Kabataan Union (IKU) and the Korea International Youth Alliance (KIYA).

The initiative is built around a simple idea: help children become more visible, more aware, and safer when travelling in low-light conditions.

From a Simple Idea to a Community Initiative

As part of the proposed local implementation, the project aims to provide 500 reflective safety bands to kindergarten or primary school students, with priority given to children who walk, cycle, or travel along roads in low-light conditions.

The project goes beyond the distribution of reflective bands. It also combines the activity with a short, age-appropriate educational session focusing on pedestrian visibility, responsible road use, and nighttime traffic safety.

Since the beginning of 2026, Phan Hoàng Quỳnh Chi has been actively contributing to Hoa Sen Bridge Alliance through youth-led initiatives, community-oriented projects, and international collaboration. In her role as Program Initiative Officer, she has been involved in developing and coordinating initiatives that connect young people with practical opportunities to create positive impact in their communities. The Reflective Safety Band Project represents one of these efforts, bringing together her commitment to youth leadership, community engagement, and international cooperation.

Youth-Led Initiative, International Collaboration

At the center of the initiative in Vietnam is Phan Hoàng Quỳnh Chi, Program Initiative Officer of Hoa Sen Bridge Alliance.

The International Kabataan Union and the Korea International Youth Alliance have authorized Quỳnh Chi to represent and coordinate the implementation of the Reflective Safety Band Project in Vietnam. Her responsibilities include coordinating with schools, community organizations, local authorities, charitable institutions, and other suitable partners; identifying beneficiary communities and participating students; and coordinating road-safety educational activities.

This collaboration brings youth organizations together around a shared purpose: protecting children and contributing to safer communities through practical, youth-led action.

Preparing for the First Local Implementation

The Reflective Safety Band Project is currently in its coordination and preparation phase.

The proposed local implementation is planned for late September or early October 2026, subject to coordination with local partners and practical conditions.

Current preparations include connecting the initiative with a suitable kindergarten or primary school, coordinating approximately 500 student beneficiaries, arranging the date and venue for the distribution activity, and supporting a short awareness session on nighttime visibility and road safety.

More Than a Reflective Band

A reflective safety band may be simple.

But behind that small band is a bigger message:

Be seen. Be safe. Empower youth. Build stronger communities.

Hoa Sen Bridge Alliance believes that meaningful change does not always begin with something large. Sometimes, it begins with a simple idea, a young person willing to take initiative, and people who are willing to work together toward a shared purpose.

“500 small bands – for safer journeys.”

Looking Ahead

The Reflective Safety Band Project is still at the beginning of its journey.

For Quỳnh Chi and the collaborating organizations, the current priority is not simply reaching the number of 500 beneficiaries, but building a responsible, locally coordinated initiative that can create practical value for children and communities.

From one small band to one safer journey – and from safer journeys to stronger communities.
